In Iceland, like many other countries, there is a tradition for bonfires on New Year´s Eve. This is done to celebrate the coming of the New Year and at the same time getting rid of things there is no longer any use for. In Reykjavík there are several bonfires in the different vicinities of the town. The inhabitants of Reykjavík gather around the bonfires, shoot firecrackers and small rockets, singing and dancing.
Reykjavík Excursions offers a tour which visits some of the bonfire areas, inviting you to join in on the celebrations and see how Icelanders enjoy themselves.
