6/6a - Reykjavik - Geysir - Gullfoss
Thingvellir is Iceland's national shrine, where Europe's eldest national legislative assembly, The Icelandic Parliament, was established in the year 930. Major events in the history of Iceland have taken place at Þingvellir and all Icelanders hold the place in high esteem. According to the law, passed in 1928, the protected area shall always be the property of the Icelandic nation, under the preservation of the Althing. The first stop is by Hakið, from where there is a spectacular view over the fields and Lake Þingvellir (83 sq.km).
From Hakið the bus continues to the grounds of former Hotel Valhöll (Parking Lot) in Thingvellir, where an approx. 45 minutes stop is made before heading across the Lyngdalsheiði heath and onwards to Laugarvatn and Geysir hot spring area. In this area the main attraction is Strokkur, a hot spring that erupts on average every 5-6 minutes. The stop is approx.1,5 hours and then the bus continues on to Gullfoss, the Golden Waterfall.
Starting from Gullfoss the highlights are in reversed order. This is an audio guided tour. This schedule is based on normal road and weather conditions.
Bookings in advance are not necessary but we highly recommend to do so. In that case you can just show up at the bus stop - and don´t forget to bring along your booking confirmation.
