6/6a - Reykjavik - Geysir - Gullfoss
Thingvellir
is Iceland's national shrine, where Europe's eldest national
legislative assembly, The Icelandic Parliament, was established in the
year 930. Major events in the history of Iceland have taken place at
Þingvellir and all Icelanders hold the place in high esteem. According
to the law, passed in 1928, the protected area shall always be the
property of the Icelandic nation, under the preservation of the
Althing. The first stop is by Hakið, from where there is a spectacular
view over the fields and Lake Þingvellir (83 sq.km).
From
the Hakið the bus continues to the grounds of Hotel Valhöll in Thingvellir, where an
approx. 45 minutes stop is made before heading across the Lyngdalsheiði
heath, Laugarvatn and on to Geysir hot spring area. In this area the
main attraction is Strokkur, a hot spring that erupts on average every
5-6 minutes. The stop is approx.1,5 hours and then the bus continues on
to Gullfoss, the Golden Waterfall. The same route is taken back to
Reykjavik.
This bus will operate from June 15 to August 31,
2010. Schedule is based on normal road and weather conditions. Pick up
is not available for this tour. This tour is cd-guided.
It
is not necessary nor possible to book seats on our scheduled buses. You
just need to show up with your booking confirmation on any date you
wish within the published bus schedule and you will get a seat on the
bus. In case the bus fills up, another bus will arrive to pick up extra
passengers – so there is always availability!
