9/9a - Reykjavík - Thorsmork
Departures daily from BSI Bus Terminal in Reykjavík, possible return the same day or later. A short stop at Selfoss village we continue through the farmlands of South-Iceland and shortly after Hvolsvöllur we take a rugged track into the magnificent Þórsmörk Nature Reserve. This series of deep valleys, surrounded on 3 sides by glaciers, is intersected by numerous fast flowing glacial rivers. Owing to considerable access difficulties the average foreign traveller seldom gets to see this jewel of the Icelandic landscape.
The region has a surprising richness of both bird life and Arctic vegetation. A visit to the Nature Reserve Thorsmork is a must during your stay in Iceland. The mountain huts and camping site in the Húsadalur valley are ideal for lodgings. A small shop for provisions is available and light meals can be bought in the canteen.
Starting from Þórsmörk the highlights are in reversd order.
