Beautiful South Circle  Passport

An optimal way to connect with the south

The Beautiful South Circle Passport is an affordable way to experience the south of Iceland. You choose either to travel through the coastal villages of the south, followed by the interior via Landmannalaugar to Skaftafell, and back via the shoreline or vice versa. You can use the Beautiful South Circle Passport to travel one circle, but it is valid from 13 June – 1 September, so you can take your time exploring if you so choose.

Along the way there are many different connections with other routes. The passport, while it is valid, entitles you to 10% discount on other Iceland On Your Own routes. At Hella you can connect to routes 9 – 9a to Þórsmörk and route 18 to Emstrur, at Kirkjubæjarklaustur or Skaftafell you can connect with route 16 to Lakagígar Craters. All of which are very interesting destinations for hikers and nature lovers alike. At Landmannalaugar you can even connect with route 14-14a that takes you across the highlands to Mývatn in the north. These are just some of the excellent possibilities open to you with this passport.

Landmannalaugar is the star of the show, so to speak, when it comes to the Beautiful South Circle Passport. The area is known for colourful mountains, lava fields, lakes and hot springs. It is an important base for hiking and a popular stop for the intrepid traveller. You are sure to be mesmerised by this unique destination.

Skaftafell is at the base of Öræfajökull, a part of Vatnajökull National Park, Europe’s biggest glacier. The National Park covers roughly half of the glacier along with the Laki area and other parts of the wilderness around. The bus will take you right up to the service centre, next to the campsite. It is the base of many good hiking trails both for the inexperienced and the most seasoned hiker.

All of the routes included have at least one departure time per day. On the busiest roads there are even more options. Most routes have frequent stops that allow for quick sightseeing or a meal. Please observe the timetables for further information.

This passport includes some of Iceland’s best destinations: Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, Skaftafell, Eldgjá volcanic rift, Ófærufoss waterfall and Landmannalaugar just to name a few. While you do not need to book each individual leg of the journey, please note that accommodations tend to get booked during the high season so it is good to book accommodations ahead of time. Guesthouses and hostels are found along the way and many hotels suitable for different tastes. There are many good campsites along the way and there is usually plenty of space available.
