Iceland's most popular hiking routes

The Hiking On Your Own Passport is the ideal way to experience two of Iceland’s most popular hiking routes. You simply purchase one passport and with it you get bus transfer from Reykjavík to the base of the hike and again to Reykjavík from the hike’s destination when you are done. You can take as much time for the hike as you please, provided it falls within the passport’s time frame (13 June – 7 September). The passport is valid for one transfer in either direction.

There are three variations of the Hiking On Your Own passport depending on your preference; Hiking Laugavegur; Hiking Fimmvörðuháls and Hiking Laugavegur & Fimmvörðuháls. You choose between the three options available when you purchase the passport and they determine which routes your passport is valid for. Hiking On Your Own is a great option for individuals and groups alike.

Hiking Laugavegur

The Laugavegur hiking trail is one of the mostpopular hiking trails in Iceland and a favourite among the locals. The hike usually starts in Landmannalaugar and from there it is a 3-4 days hike to Þórsmörk nature reserve. This Hiking On Your Own passport option can be used for the Laugavegur hike.

Hiking Fimmvörðuháls

Fimmvörðuháls hiking trail is extremely popular and during the last few years it has become even more so. One of the reasons being the volcanic eruption that took place in the middle of the trail in 2010. The hike takes you through a pass between the glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull and takes about 7-10 hours to complete, depending on hike’s pace. This Hiking On Your Own passport option can be used for the Fimmvörðuháls hike.

Hiking Laugavegur & Fimmvörðuháls

For those interested in hiking both Laugavegur and Fimmvörðuháls, this option combines the both and allows you to hike both trails with guaranteed transportation. You can start at either Skógar or at Landmannalaugar. This Hiking On Your Own passport option can be used for the Laugavegur & Fimmvörðuháls
