This route takes you beyond the classic tourist trail, offering a rich mix of history, scenery and hands-on adventure — all in one unforgettable day from Reykjavík.
Pickup in Reykjavík
The day begins with pickup between 08:30 and 09:00 from hotels and official bus stops across the greater Reykjavík area. Once the group is assembled, the journey begins, heading toward some of Iceland’s most fascinating landscapes.
Þingvellir National Park
Your first destination is Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where Iceland’s history and geology meet. This is the birthplace of Iceland’s parliament, founded in 930 AD, and one of the few places on Earth where you can clearly see the meeting point of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates.
A gentle walk through the rift valley leads to Öxarárfoss waterfall, adding a scenic natural highlight to this historically significant site.
Deildartunguhver Hot Spring
From Þingvellir, the tour continues to Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring. Here, near-boiling geothermal water bursts from the earth in enormous volumes, filling the air with steam and showcasing Iceland’s volcanic energy at work.
Viewing platforms allow you to experience this phenomenon safely while learning how geothermal power is harnessed to heat nearby towns.
Hraunfossar & Barnafoss
Next, visit two strikingly different waterfalls set against ancient lava fields. At Hraunfossar, countless streams flow from beneath hardened lava, spreading across the rocks before joining the Hvítá river. The result is a wide, delicate cascade shaped by both fire and ice.
Just a short walk away, Barnafoss offers a dramatic contrast — a fast-moving torrent rushing through a narrow canyon, steeped in local folklore and natural force.
Húsafell & Snowmobiling on Langjökull Glacier
The journey then leads into Húsafell, a peaceful and scenic area surrounded by mountains and lava terrain. From here, you’ll head toward Langjökull glacier, Iceland’s second-largest ice cap, for an exciting snowmobiling adventure.
Snowmobiling on Langjökull offers a fun and accessible way to experience Iceland’s glaciers. Riding across wide, open snowfields, you’ll enjoy sweeping views of the highlands and a sense of speed and freedom unique to the glacier environment. No previous experience is required, and the activity is designed to be both thrilling and approachable.
After the snowmobiling experience, the tour returns to Húsafell before heading back toward Reykjavík.
