Discover a quieter side of Iceland on this full-day Silver Circle tour, combining iconic history, powerful geothermal landscapes, dramatic waterfalls and an ATV quad biking adventure in Húsafell. This route offers the depth of Iceland’s west and interior regions — without the crowds of the Golden Circle.

With pickup from Reykjavík and a carefully paced itinerary, this tour blends culture, nature and adventure into one unforgettable day.

Reykjavik pickup

Pickup begins between 08:30 and 09:00 from hotels and designated bus stops in the greater Reykjavík area. Once everyone is on board, the journey starts, beginning with Iceland’s historic heartland.

Þingvellir National Park

Your first stop is Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of exceptional historical and geological importance. This is where Iceland’s parliament was founded in 930 AD, making it one of the oldest parliamentary sites in the world.

Þingvellir also lies directly on the boundary between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, allowing visitors to walk through a visible rift between continents. A short walk leads to Öxarárfoss waterfall, where water flows through the ancient assembly grounds.

Deildartunguhver Hot Spring

Next, experience the raw power of Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring. Here, nearly boiling water surges from the ground at 97°C, releasing vast amounts of steam and energy.

Safe walkways and viewing platforms allow you to witness this geothermal giant up close, while learning how its heat is channelled to nearby towns, providing hot water to homes across the region.

Hraunfossar & Barnafoss Waterfalls

At Hraunfossar, water emerges directly from beneath a lava field formed by ancient volcanic eruptions beneath Langjökull glacier. Hundreds of small streams pour into the Hvítá river, creating a wide, shimmering curtain of water unlike any other waterfall in Iceland.

Just upstream lies Barnafoss, a powerful and narrow cascade rushing through a rocky gorge. Local legends give this site its name, adding a layer of folklore to the dramatic natural setting.

Húsafell & ATV Adventure

The journey continues into Húsafell, a sheltered oasis surrounded by mountains and lava fields. Thanks to its unique location, Húsafell often enjoys calmer weather than nearby glaciers, making it an ideal base for outdoor activities.

Here, you embark on an ATV quad biking adventure, riding across rugged trails and lava terrain with views of glaciers and highland landscapes. This optional activity adds an exciting, hands-on element to the tour.

Húsafell is also home to hiking trails, caves, geothermal spas and excellent local dining, making it one of West Iceland’s most versatile destinations.
