Iceland On Your Own

Hiking in Iceland

In a land filled with geological wonders, an untouched wilderness and vast open spaces, it makes sense that hiking is a favourite activity among the locals.
Some of Iceland’s most popular hiking trails are in the south of Iceland, in and around the Þórsmörk area. These trails (e.g. Fimmvörðuháls and Laugavegur) come highly recommended for their extraordinary beauty, glorious views and diversity in landscapes.

The Highland Bus

The green oasis that is Þórsmörk is surrounded by the Iceland highlands, glaciers and glacial rivers and crossing these rivers and tracks is not recommended for regular vehicles. Reykjavik Excursions runs scheduled highland buses daily to and from the most popular hiking trails in the area. Explore your options to buy transfer to and from your designated route or keep your options open with our flexible Hiking Pass and we’ll help you do Iceland on your own.

Iceland On Your Own

Iceland On Your Own is the name for Reykjavik Excursions' scheduled bus operation. During the summer, Iceland On Your Own is the perfect way for the independent traveller to experience Iceland's most popular hiking routes.

No guides are on our scheduled busses.

Tickets can be bought on this page, at the BSÍ Bus Terminal in Reykjavík or at selected information centres and booking offices around Iceland.

Pick up and drop off is not included. Most of our departures from Reykjavík stop at Reykjavík City Hostel/Campsite and BSÍ Bus Terminal.

To check-in, please send an email to [email protected] with your booking number, your preferred dates, departure and arrival location as well as departure time, at least 48 hours before departure.

Please note that the bus might be fully booked on your preferred departure even with the 48 hour notice, the sooner you check-in the more chance there is for availability.
